The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been arrested after allegedly attacking a number of staff at Paris Airport and then threatening to kill them.

The 31-year-old, who plays the bloodthirsty King Henry VIII in the BBC series, is said to have launched his drunken onslaught in front of astonished plane passengers.

The assault allegedly took place in Le Quotidien (The Daily) bar in terminal 2F at the  airport on Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman for Parispolice said Rhys Meyers was held for three hours so as to  ‘sober up’.

He was then bailed to appear before magistrates on charges of ‘wilful  violence, outrage, hitting and threatening death.’

Ireland-born Rhys Meyers will appear before the Correctional Tribunal in Bobigny, near Paris, in September.

He was previously arrested for being drunk and disorderly at Dublin airport in  November 2007, and then went into rehab for a few weeks.
