Never Hire An Amateur Hypnosist To Perform At Your School
Skeptic or believer, you can't deny that hypnotism is fascinating. But things can get pretty awkward if you forget how to undo the trance. And one Canadian hypnotist named Maxime Nadeau had to learn this lesson the hard way.
According to USA Today, the 20-year-old was performing an end-of-school show at a high school in Quebec, putting a bunch of 12- and 13-year-old girls into a hypnotic state. Maxime soon realized that something was seriously wrong when he couldn't snap them out of it; a couple of the girls still with their heads on the table and others "clearly in a trance." Another girl was apparently in this state for nearly five hours!
In the end, Maxime had to call his mentor, Richard Whitbread, to come down and help them. He broke the spell by convincing the girls they were being re-hypnotized and then he "brought them out with a stern voice." So what is it like to be under a trance for that long? One of the girls described her experience as, "I don't know how to explain it. It's like you're no longer there. You're spaced out." Creepy.
