We've all heard about prenups before, but what about postnups? According to the Daily Beast, more couples in America are signing up for postnuptial agreements to avoid fights over who has to take out the
trash, feed the fish, fetch the mail, unclog the kitchen sink, etc.
According to a 2007 study done by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), half of lawyers polled reported an upswing in clients requesting a postnup. And there's been a steady increase in the drafting of postnup agreements across all age groups over the years.
Besides preventing petty disagreements about household chores, postnups also cover disagreements concerning spousal misbehavior. However, it isn't always 100% effective. Heidi Klum and Seal reportedly signed a postnup that prevents the singer (who has an estimated net worth of $15 million) from leeching any of Klum's $70 million fortune. Following the couple's split, Seal's lawyer made quick work of the postnup, arguing that Seal had a right to Klum's earnings over the course of the couple's marriage.
