People are worried all the time about every little thing in life. It's like a compulsive behavior with no off switch. But, is it really worth it? If you could change things around - you would! If not, the best way forward is to accept it and get on with your life.

Trying to be cheerful and happy isn't easy. If it were, you wouldn't be reading this would you?

Here are some great tips that teach you to be happy on a more regular basis.

  • Understand that simple things such as a warm sunny day, the perfect coffee, a cool breeze, a stranger's smile, etc. emote a happier feeling throughout your body

  • Mingle with happy people. Mix with those who are upbeat and joyous. Catch the feeling and pass it on.

  • Do not dwell in self-pity. Wallowing in self-pity lowers your self-esteem and self-confidence. If you can take action, be quick to correct troubling situations. If it is beyond your control, forget it and carry on your life with a happy outlook. Be hopeful instead of drowning yourself in useless self-pity.

  • Love yourself. If you cannot love yourself it is difficult to love others.

  • Laugh at adversity. Who doesn't have problems in life? When you laugh at your difficulties, you'll realize they have become insignificant and you feel a little lighter inside.

  • Be healthy. Good health is a great factor in making you happy.

  • Believe that you deserve happiness. Believe that happiness is your birthright and you deserve to be happy. It is, after all, your choice and nobody can take it away from you.

  • Engage in different kinds of activities than those in your usual routine. Breaking from your routine sometimes makes life a whole lot more fun and interesting. Look into ways of changing your routine.

  • Choose to be happy. You have the ability to take a positive or negative approach to all your life issues and challenges. If you choose a positive approach, happiness is much easier to reach.

  • Develop a sense of gratitude. If ever you feel that you lack something in life, remember all those things that you have in your life. Be thankful for things such as a roof over your head, a decent family, your physical and personal strengths, etc.  Appreciate what you already have in your life.
  • Avoid negativity. Fill yourself with positivity that makes you see life in new colors and shades.  You will see life with new eyes and bubbling energy. That is happiness.
  • Learn to laugh at yourself. This is an excellent approach to life. Everyone makes mistakes. Me included. Your errors are only bad if you take them seriously and never let them fade. Just laugh at yourself if you err and your heart will lighten up.

Remember, it does not cost you a penny to be happy. Your life and your choices are in your hands. Isn’t that reason enough to be happy?
