Two women stole giftcards from a little girl at Wal-Mart on her birthday! 9 yr-old Marissa had put it on a shelf while talking to a Wal-Mart clerk when Tina Griekspoor, 36, and her mother Evelyn Border, 56, took the cards and swiped it to pay for their own items.
The giftcards valued at $80 had Marissa's name on it.
In a bizarre plea bargain agreed with a judge, both women agreed to hold up shame signs admitting their crimes in outside a courthouse in exchange for no time behind bars.

Publicly humiliating punishment chosen to avoid going to jail

Teaching the public not to steal because there are consequences
Passers-by approved of the punishment.
'I think it's humiliating enough for people to think twice before stealing,' said Chris Ellis, 30, a contractor working on a house nearby. 'You don't steal from a little girl, not on her birthday.'
Marissa's mother, Karma Williams, drove her past the women in the morning. 'I think it's pretty fair,' she said. 'They deserved it. I want them to feel sorry.'
