A fire at a wedding tent Saturday killed about 41 women and children guests, leaving 76 others injured.

Fire department chief, Brig. Gen. Jassem al-Mansouri was quoted saying 41 bodies were recovered from the scene in Jahra, a tribal area west of Kuwait City. 76 people were reported to have been sent to the hospital with burns.

The cause of the fire hasn't been identified, and authorities had difficulty evacuating the injured as relatives and onlookers were flooding the scene.

"The number of fatalities might increast due to the large number of injuries as a result of stampede that followed the outbreak of the fire at the tent that was packed with people at the wedding," Mansouri said.

In Saudi Arabia, wedding parties are held separately for men and women - children attend the women's party.
