Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron have been one of Hollywood's hottest young couples for ages, but getting married and settling down is not on the top of her mind.

"I think [marriage and starting a family] is great," the 20-year-old Hudgens says, "but I'm so focused on my career right now that it doesn't really cross my mind."

Instead, Hudgens is planning to expand her career: taking on a different kind of high school role in Bandslam, a coming-of-age story about a motley crew of students who come together to form an electric band.

The actress will play Sa5m (the 5 is silent), a quiet, shy girl who is almost opposite from the fun-loving, sweety-pie High School Musical character, Gabriella. Hudgens is enjoying the change of scene.

"I think the best part about being an actor is playing different characters," she says. "I'm definitely going to revisit musicals later, once I feel accomplished at a certain point, that I've gone somewhere with my acting career. Then I'll go back, because that's where I grew up - in musicals."

Hudgens hopes to show off how versatile she can be: in the upcoming action flich, Sucker Punch, she plays a tormented girl locked away be an evil stepfather.

"The fact that kids look up to me in my role as Gabriella is flattering," she said of her High School Musical character. "But at the end of the day, I want to do R-rated films (porno?), and I want to do things that are a bit edgier, so maybe some kids can't see some of them."

She adds: "I just think it's really important to try different things. I think a lot of people get stuck doing the same routine, and I'm just not content with that. I love trying new things and doing new hobbies and just exploring life."
