A woman avoided serious injury when the underwire of her bra deflected a bullet shot at her.

The 57-year-old Detroit woman saw a group of men breaking into a neighbour's house, according to police. When the men spotted her, one of them fired a shot at her. The bullet hit the underwire of her bra, saving her from serious injury.

A Detroit police spokesman Phillip Cook said, "It did slow the bullet down. She sustained injuries but they are not life threatening." The woman, unidentified, was treated at a nearby hospital, while the thugs got away.

Just last week in Brazil, another woman, 58-year-old Ivonete Pereira's life was saved with the help of her bra. She was shot in the chest by robbers on a bus in the Brazilian state of Bahia. She survived as she had stuffed money into her bra, in caution of the frequent armed robberies on busses in the region. The cash absorbed most of the impact.

This is yet, another lesson of the importance of wearing a bra and its life-saving qualities.
