Those of your who sleep 8 hours a night spend one third of your life in your bedroom.
This means your bedroom should be a sanctuary where you can retreat after a long day out in the world.
Your bedroom should reflect your personality. It should be distinctly you. You have to make your living room and dining room appropriate for guests, but your living room can look and feel exactly how you want it. You want a bedroom that is cozy and organized.
This article will give you 7 tips for designing the most comfortable bedroom imaginable.
1. Create Soft Lighting
Fluorescent overhead lights are never going to make for the most comfortable sleeping arrangement.
You need your bedroom to have soft lighting if you want to increase your chances of falling asleep.
As it gets later in the day and into the night, only have one lamp turned on. Make sure the bulb admits soft, warm light.
Fairy lights hung up around the perimeter of the bedroom are another great idea for creating a cozy atmosphere. A night light is also a good option for those who don't like to sleep in complete darkness.
2. Invest in Your Bed
Your bed should be the central focus of your bedroom.
You want to invest in your bed so that you enjoy spending time there. A memory foam mattress is a fantastic idea to ensure you get a good night's sleep. The mattress foam forms a mold around the shape of your body so it feel like it was made just for you.
Your pillows are another important consideration. Test different kinds of pillows to find what works best for your neck. Some people prefer softer pillows, while other prefer pillows that are more firm. You'll need to test out a variety of pillows to find which work best for you.
Satin pillows cases and sheets will add a level of luxury to your sleeping area. The satin will also help protect your hair and skin as it won't pull on them as much.
3. Create a Reading Nook
Try to get in the habit of reading a book before bed instead of staring at an electronic screen.
Create a reading nook in the corner of your bedroom where you can read before bed. Have a bookcase with your books on it, a reading lamp, and a comfy lounge chair.
It's a good idea to sit in the lounge chair until you can't keep your eyes open anymore, and then move to your bed.
If you make it a habit to only lay down when you're ready to go to sleep, your body will train itself to get tired when you're in bed.
4. Throw Some Shade
It's important you invest in blinds that block out the sun in order to get better sleep.
Buy blackout curtains that will block out most sunlight in the morning and evening hours. Be sure to open the blinds when it's daylight though and you want to be awake.
Your body needs visual clues that it's morning and time to get on with your day. For extra eye protection from the sun, wear an eye mask to sleep. This will ensure your room is dark enough for you to soak up those last few minutes of sleep in the morning.
Candles and incense can lead to a soothing environment. Lavender is one of the most relaxing scents to unwind to. Vanilla and jasmine are other soothing options.
At the end of a long work day, light a lavender candle and sit in your reading nook inhaling the aroma. You should start to feel calmer within a few minutes.
6. Get a Rug
An area rug will make your bedroom look and feel more cozy.
It will also keep your feet warm on a cold day. Invest in an area rug that takes up a large portion of your floor.
Area rugs can also add a much needed splash of color to your bedroom. If you're going for a soothing look, the color blue is supposed to be calming.
Rugs also help minimize noise from outside your bedroom as they act as insulators.
7. Plant Yourself
Being around nature is an instant mood booster.
You should place plants around your bedroom in order to reap their benefits. Plants remove toxins from the air and add life to your space.
Don't forget to follow instructions on watering and tend to them as if they were an animal - they are living things after all.
If you feel like you don't have the time to water plants effectively, try cacti or other plants that require very little water.
