1. Picking the Right Clothes to Paint In
Oddly enough, so many people forget or don’t realize that they’re going to get paint all over their clothes when they are painting the interior of their house.
Maybe you don’t paint often enough to realize that accidents happen, paint spills, and ultimately our clothes end up a mess.
Or maybe you just forget, even though you know you’re going to end up getting paint all over your hands and that’s ultimately going to spread to your clothes.
So instead of messing up expensive outerwear, you have to dig through your closets to find your oldest, ugliest, most outdated outfits and ruin them while you paint!
Otherwise you’re going to be so upset if you accidentally mess up your everyday outfits that you love to wear. This would be a foolish mistake to make and it will ultimately cost you because you’re going to have to go to the store and replace the items that you just ruined with paint.
Remember, paint isn’t going to come out in the washing machine. So if you get it on a good outfit you could pretty much kiss it goodbye.
Or if you’re feeling brave, mess up your clothes and see if you can get the paint out, but I really don’t recommend it.
Do yourself a big favor and wear something old and ratty while painting. Wear something that you’ll have no problem ruining, because that’s exactly what’s about to happen.
2. Picking the Right Tools for the Job
Some people have a tendency to go overboard when picking their painting tools. This is a huge and costly mistake that can be easily avoided if you don’t go crazy and stick to the basics.
When picking tools, you should always have a hand roller, a few roller brush replacements, and a paint pan. You could also benefit from a smaller brush to paint around light switches and other fixtures. It’s also good to have a smaller brush to cut the corners before you begin using the roller.
If your walls need minor repairs, it’s good to buy spackle and a putty knife. Keep these on hand to patch any nicks or cracks before you begin painting.
3. Choosing Your Colors
We obviously want our paint job to look as beautiful as possible. But that doesn’t mean you have to buy the most expensive paint in the hardware store.
Take some time to look at different types of paint online ahead of time. Find out the names of the best, most inexpensive brands and stick to those. This will help you save money over the long run and still give your home an amazing makeover.
