Cantilevered Family Weekend Home by David Jay Weiner Incorporates Green Features

The Berkshire Pond House is a weekend family home overlooking the Berkshire Hills and a beautiful lake nearby. Completed by David Jay Weiner in Becket, Massachusetts, the dwelling “was conceived as a folded volumetric sheet enclosure that wraps and folds into itself to form and define the major interior spaces, and tie the house with the landscape.”
It was built strategically on a densely wooded sloping site, with both sustainable and economical consideration. The use of recyclable materials was a priority when building the house. Aside from green materials used, the home also includes a cooling system, solar collectors to supplement the grid system, and a closed loop geothermal heating system.
Weather seems to be getting more severe, with many recent floods, thunderstorms, tornadoes, and extremely high winds. NOAA forecasts are not always accurate when it comes to your specific location.
