Low-cost hybrids being developed by Honda.

With the company failing to sell an expected number of Insight hybrids in the U.S., the company is now planning to reverse its strategies and work on developing new hybrid cars that cost even less than the Insight’s already low price of $19,800. The company’s loss of targets could be due to the performance of the Insight that offered 41 mpg in combined city and highway driving modes, which is far less than Toyota’s Prius 50 mpg that sells for $22,000.

As expected the company is trying to win the battle of hybrids by bringing new models which cost much less than Prius and even Insight. No news as to when the new hybrids might hit the streets, but this ploy could well bring Honda in the driver’s seat of the hybrid race.
