After cooking up a mushroom risotto with ramps dish, home improvements web site The Kitchn was left with what they classified as an unwanted "house guest" of a smell, which got them thinking about ways to deal with unwanted odors of the food variety.

While you'd be wise to open the windows and toss out the leftovers, here are a few potentially more effective ways to rid yourself of an unpleasant post-meal smell from the folks at The Kitchn.

  • Simmer a pot of half vinegar and half water.

  • Simmer a pot of water with lemon and orange peels.
  • Leave a dish of vinegar out on the counter overnight.
  • Saturate cotton balls with vanilla extract and let sit in a dish overnight.
