While there are quite a few options to help smokers kick the habit, one of the best ways to quit smoking (besides going cold turkey) is to quit the natural way. Unlike chemicals or E-cigarettes, going natural relies mostly on mental discipline, perseverance and emotional integrity. Below is a simple guide on how to quit smoking naturally:
Practice Mindfulness In a 2011 Drug and Alcohol Dependence study to stay off cigarettes, mindfulness training was found to be more effective than other stop-smoking programs when in came to helping participants smoke fewer cigarettes or resisting them altogether.
This kind of training involved realizing when you're facing a
craving, accepting it, thinking about what's happening and then taking
note of the sensation (whether it's tightness or pressure) so that you are more mentally prepared the next time it hits. Heavy Lifting Other than jogging and cycling, research has shown that weightlifting could help smokers quit. The research, published in the journal Nicotine & Tobacco Research, showed that doing two hour-long weightlifting sessions for 12 weeks plus undergoing treatment to quit smoking was linked with greater success in quitting smoking, compared with just undergoing the stop-smoking treatment. . Eat More Fruits & Vegetables A study published in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research found that eating lots of fruits and veggies could help smokers maintain a tobacco-free lifestyle.
During the study, researchers found that participants who ate the most produce were three times more likely to report that they'd been tobacco free in the previous month. Based on the test results, the increased produce consumption was also linked to having the first cigarette later in the day, smoking fewer cigarettes, and decreased dependence on nicotine. Acupuncture & Hypnosis A review of studies suggests there is evidence that acupuncture and hypnosis can work to help quit smoking. The findings published in the American Journal of Medicine suggested that if medications and counseling didn't work, that hypnosis and acupuncture could be a better alternative to taking medication. Text Messages Smokers can enroll in a program called "txt2stop", which sends encouraging text messages to help smokers quit. A study published in the journal The Lancet also showed that those who received the texts were twice as likely to kick the habit after six months, compared with smokers who didn't get any encouraging messages.
