So, your dentist has told you that you need to get braces. Something that you were hoping to avoid in your lifetime. Getting braces for the first time can feel a little overwhelming but it’s not as bad as you think.
Your normal life won’t change that much minus having to add a bit of extra work into your brushing routine and altering your food choices. Having them applied may hurt a little but the pain won’t last. 1. You Could Have a Lisp
If you go the metal braces route, it will affect the way that you talk. The brackets will cause you to have a slight lisp. Don't panic too much because it won't last. Once you get used to talking with braces in your mouth it will start to go away. If having a lisp will be a huge problem with work or school, talk to your orthodontist about getting clear braces instead.
2. Your Life Won't Change as Much as You Think
One fear you may have with getting braces is that people will start to treat you differently. Especially if you're in high school. You will have to alter your diet quite a bit when you get metal braces. You can't have anything crunchy or that may stain your teeth. 5. It Will Take Longer to Clean Your Teeth
Braces do get dirty and so you'll have to be a little bit diligent with brushing your teeth. It will be a challenge to brush and floss while you have them. Your orthodontist can give you a few tools and information on how to keep your braces and teeth clean.
