As Malaysia prepares to celebrate its
55th year of Independence, the
Education Ministry decided to reveal this year's logo a little earlier than usual.

As
you can imagine, Malaysians weren't too pleased about the final design.
It soon became a hot topic over on Facebook, where some accused the
Ministry of doing a 'cut-and-paste' job, while others compared it to
being designed by a
6-year-old armed with photoshop.
A
Facebook page was soon set up to petition against it being used for this year's celebrations, along with samples of
other designer logos which far surpass the one displayed above.
Marina
Mahathir, the daughter of former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr.
Mahathir Mohamad, had this to say about the shoddy logo design:
Obviously
our Ministry of Information's graphic designer just discovered all the
fun of photoshop and decided to bung everything it all at once...
In response to the criticism, the Ministry decided to release a
rationale explaining the meaning behind the theme. But we think it's a little too late for that.
