When you decide to buy a new car, there are many factors you must take into consideration. This includes price, fuel efficiency, engine size, interior features, and the car’s history. However, perhaps the most important issue is reliability.
Every car buyer wants to know that they’ve made a worthwhile investment and purchased a car that will be safe and get them from point A to point B without trouble. Unfortunately, despite advancements in technology and a wider range of cars available than ever before, there are still a lot of unreliable models out there.
With this in mind, it’s time to take a look at one of the most recognisable car brands: Vauxhall. Whether buying new or from a second-hand dealer like Unbeatable Car, Vauxhall is undoubtedly one of the most popular brands on the market. But is it a worthwhile investment?
According to experts at the Guardian, the answer is yes. On a list that ranked the top 25 car brands for reliability, Vauxhall came in at number 7. It beat top rivals like Seat (9th), Volkswagen (12th), and Ford (16th).
Another study was compiled by the Reliability Index. This looked at the 100 most reliable cars in the UK market during the last year. Vauxhall placed very well, with the Agila – the brands nifty little city car – coming in 3rd place. There are also several other Vauxhall models that made the list, including the Zafira (34th) and Tigra (35th).
However, there are a few that fall below average. Surprisingly, this includes the popular Astra with a reliability index position of 133. However, the much loved Corsa sits at a respected 95.
The Repair Costs
What’s more, Vauxhall’s typically have a much lower average repair cost than other leading brands. For example, when looking at the Astra, the Reliability Index states the average repair price to be £326.52, while the Seat Leon (a rival for the Vauxhall hatchback), comes in £200 more expensive, at £529.91. On the opposite end of the spectrum, other brands beat the Astra, such as the Ford Focus at £283.72.
Essentially, while a Vauxhall may not be the cheapest to repair, it is by no means the most expensive. It’s also more reliable than many of its competitors and so should spend less time in the garage.
So, what does all of this mean? Vauxhall has a reputation for being well-built and reliable, and when looking at their rankings and repair costs, it would appear to be justified. As such, a Vauxhall is a brand that should be considered when buying a new car.
