Bad news. If you're many other people, you're probably sitting on your ass all day. And that means, your chances of cancer are higher too.
Sitting in a chair doesn't sound like a medical condition / fear, but it really is bad for you because it means you're not moving anything else but your fingers all tday long. A study done by an epidemiologist at Alberta Health Services in Canada found that 173,000 cases of cancer per year might be caused by butt-sitting syndrome.
Christine Friedenreich presented her findings on Thursday at the American Institute for Cancer Research conference. She says that it includes 49,000 cases of breast cancer and 43,000 cases of colon cancer in the U.S, alone. Along with that there are 37,200 cases of lung cancer, 30,600 cases of prostate cancer and 12,000 cases of endometrial cancer and 1.800 cases of ovarian cancer. All partly attributed to sitting.
And if you think this study is just singling out sitting and a one off, its not. There are also many body of researches that are finding that sitting is dangerous to your health, even if you hit the gym daily.
The good news is that if you have a job that involves you sitting all day long, taking one to two minute breaks with some light exercise can reduce levels of cancer linked molecules in your body.
